Papakura Park.
Sir,—ln a report of the loan proposal meeting held in Papakura recently I notice several arguments against redeeming the lease held by Blank and Davis, which I do not understand, but I quote one or two. The "minority of one" on the Board as he calls himself stated in the meeting that "he had no objection to the place at all, but he looked at it from a financial aspect, and, as it was stated, it was good business to lease business sites. Why not lease the whole place in sections and buy another park ? " Before the Board decided on the leasehold property there were two other properties under consideration, both of which have been drawn from sale, one from being too far from the township and the other, according to expert advice, being unfit and too expensive for the purpose As there has been no official notice given that either of these properties will be again placed on the market for recreation purposes I cannot understand the opposition in respect to a third and unknown property. The Board figures show a profit of £125 on Blank and Davis lease, plus free park and water frontage for launch parties to land and embark from, instead of travelling to Young's beach besides being the finest play ground and bathing place for children in the district, besides other advantages. £125 profit from Fahuriri means the interest on £2,000, which will be a big help in the payment of future loans, and a better business proposition than sinking the money in an unproductive park to be used for pleasure only.
