FRANKLIN COUNTY COUNCIL
Annual Meeting.
The annual general and statutory meeting of the Franklin County Council was held in the Council Chambers Pukekoho, yesterday. Present: Crs W. Claud Motion (Chairman), J. 8. Montgomerie, T. W Woods, J. A, Short, W. H. Thomas, J. T. Lockwood, J. Keith, H. Wilcox, the clerk, Mr A. P. Day, and the engineer, Mr J. F. McArthur.
The Minister for Agriculture, Hon. W.Nosworthy, in reply to the Council's letter drawing attention to complaints made as to the action of one described as a foreigner carrying out the duties of Apiaries Inspector, stated the person complained of was a Russian subjeet. Further enquires were being made. He pointed out that the views of the Council in regard to inspectors being also instructors were noted.—Decided to send a copy of the letter to the petitioners and that, if they desired the Council to take further action it would do so.
The Department of Public Works intimated that the Governor General had issued a proclamation for the purpose of taking land under the Public Works Act. The land proposed to be taken is from Section 163 and 399, Koheroa Parish (MacDonald's Deviation ) -To be advertised. The State Advances Office advised that the Board had granted the Council's application for a £4OO loan for forming metalling, and raising bridge on half chain road from Drury, Tuakau main road, and forming and metalling Jericho road.—To be given effect to. The Franklin Sub-provincial executive of the Farmers' Union, wrote urging upon the Council the necessity of bringing down a loan for road making machinery, and stating that it would support the pro posal,—Favourably received. Mrs A. J. B. Seeger, Kohe Kohe, tendered £4 per annum for lease of Te Tora Point landing reserve.
The Kobe Kobe Farmers' Union urged the Council to expedite the work on Cooper's road, Kohe Kohe. and that approaches be constructed to the bridge on the main Awhitu Koad at Harvey's gully. The Union also protested against the terms of the proposed lease of Te Tora point. The Council decided to accept Mrs Seeger's tender, provided that the tenderer was agreeable to have a portion set aside for picnic purposes. In regard to Cooper's road, it was decided to survey and legalise, preliminary to doing the required work. John 1. Douglas requested the Council to do some formation work on the Kohe Kohe West Coast road. —The work to be put in hand as soon as the promised subscription towards the cost is forthcoming. James Murray, Kohe Kohe, asked the Council to fence the new deviation at Kohe Kohe.—Left to 3r Shortt, clerk and engineer. J. Aitchison, Hnuua, made application for permission to erect a swing gate on Sky High road.— Agreed to. Joseph Henry, Patumahoe, on behalf of the signatories of a recent petition for a bridge stated that they were pleased the Council was giving the prayer of the petitioners practical consideration aud trust that the outcome 01 such consideration would be a permanent structure capable of carrying any kind of traffic. He pointed out that on such a road, the main road between Waiuku and Auckland, permanent structures to replace the bridge also Brown's biidge are bound to be imperative in a very short time.—Received A petition signed by 20 ratepayers in the Mauku and Waiuku ridings requested the Council to raise a loan for forming and metalling (a) Tramway road, from Waiuku Drury Road, to connect with end of metal near Qlenbrook station, (b) Quinn road from Tramway road to Mauku station. They pointed out that there are two Government grants available for formation on above roads, Pakington to Mauku £IOO free, Quinn road (Mauku) £SO (£ for £)— Left to Cr Montgomerie, Reid, and staff to go into the matter of forming a rating area.
