The official opening of the cricket season, as far as Tuakau is concerned, will eventuate on Wednesday next, when a match Vice Presidents of the Club versus the rest will take place. Elaborate arrangements are complete. Afternoon tea will be supplied by a committee of ladies, and cricket enthusiasts are assured of a good afternoon's outing. A good joke was cracked by Mr R. F. Bollard (M.P. for Raglan) during the course of an address at Onewhero on Wednesday night. A certain Maori was at a loss to know what name to call his horse by and ultimately the secretary of the club suggested to him that he should call it Paddy Webb. "No plurry fear " retorted the native. " I want my horse to get to te front."

Mr Francis L. Lubbe, head representative for the Phoenix Pianoforte Repairing Company, Auckland, begs to announce that he is ia no way connected with his recent employers, from whom he severed his connection some few weeks ago. This gentleman continues to visit Pukekohe and surrounding districts at any time his services may be required. At the annual Statutory meeting of the Franklin County Council yesterday, Cr W. Claud Motion was unanimously re-elected chairman, on the motion of Crs J. 8. Montgonierie and H. Wilcox. Cr Motion hoped that the good feeling existing between councillors would continue, and that now the war was over, development of the County would proceed more rapidly, especially in regard to new machinery for roading purposes. Motor haulage necessitated better roads, and he trusted that in time the County roads would be second to none in the Dominion.— Applause. The next meeting will be on Thursdav, December 18th.
