MANUREWA TOWN BOARD.

November Meeting.

(Staff Reporter.)

The ordinary meeting of Manurewa Town Board was held on Monday night, when there were present: Messrs 0- H. Lupton (chairman), E 8. Pegler, T. J. Corin, Geo. Coxhead, F. W. Woods, G. Bmith, E. JBntterworth and the clerk, (Mr H. Kay.) The chairman reported that he had waited on the Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. W. F. Massey, when at Fapaknra, with regard to the Post Office, and urged upon bim the necessity of expediting the erection of the building. Mr Massey replied that the matter was held up, due to the high price of the tenders, but fresh tenders were being called. Mr Lupton state i that Mr Maesey promised to perform the official opening ceremony when the building was completed. In connexion with the complaint received at last meeting, that a returned soldier had been turned away from a Welcome Home to returned men, the Victoria League forwarded a lengthy explanation, stating that the man had not been turned away, and that the complaintant had been misinformed.

On the motion of Mr Feglar it was decided to write to the parents, expressing regret, the chairman being deputed to deliver the letter personally and to obtain the wishes of the man and his parents, regarding a welcome home.

Rev. U. Mason, Otahuhu, intimated that he would visit the district at the earliest opportunity, for the purpose of water divining. In accordance with notice of motion given at last meeting, Mr Pegler moved that a permanent surfaceman be appointed. Members were of opinion that the Board's finances were not satisfac tory enough to afford to pay a surfaceman.

The motion lapsed for want of a seconder. Mr Corin remarking that if Mr Pegler brought it up some time after April next, he i.ould second it.

The chairman reported that he bad interviewed the Prime Minister while at Papakura, and applied for a grant of £SOO towards purchase of a Recreation Ground. He said be had not the slightest doubt the request would be acceded to. Mr Corin moved that the Board obtain the Engineer's estimates of the cost for reforming roads in the Board's area.—Seconded by Mr Coxhead, and carried.
