PAPAKURA TOWN BOARD.
Last Night's Meeting. The Papakura Town Board met on Monday night. Present: Dr A. W. P. Brookfield chairman), Messrs D. W. Jones, S. Evans, T. D Campbell, A. Willis, E. D. McLennan and the clerk (Mr A. L Cooper.) SANITARY AFFAIRS The sanitary inspector, Mr A L. Cooper, reported that owing to complaints, that rubbish was being deposited on the rubbish tip, and as a result bad smells were being created, he inspected the tip, and found that the rubbish from the Globe Hotel yard was being deposited there, and the result of the stirring of the rubbish during removal, produced a very unpleasant smell of stale beer. Though the smell would decrease vety much in a shnr' time, the place was likely to become a veritable breeding ground for flies, unless some preventative measures were taken If the tip was cleaned up, and rubbish removed further back into the gully, the covering of the rubbish could be better dealt with—Received The sanitary committee reported having met. With regard to the rubbish tip, (referred to in our last report) the committee recommended that the rubbish be moved into the gully, and that it be covered with earth, and that a platform be erected over the edge of the cliff to enable carters to tip rubbish into the gully. Mr Jones said the work, as recommended by the committee, would en tail considerable expenditure and time. He suggested that the surfaceman clear the tip, adding that the salt water and mud, would cover the rubbish up He thought the woodwork was unneces-ary. A proper approach was essential, but he thought this could be done by moans of chocks at the edge of the cliff, which would prevent carts from going over the edge. He moved as an amendent to the recommendation, that the later clause be struck out, and that the rubbish be tipped over the gully, and that a log bo placed across the edge as a chock, and that a notice be erected compelling carters to tip all rubbish over the log. Mr Campbell seconded and it was agreed to. The report, as amended, was adoped. RECREATION GROUND AND PARK The acting chairman stated that rumours were current that Messrs Blank and Davis had withdrawn the offer of their proper'y to the Board, for Park and Recreation Ground purposes He thought the Board should acquire an option over the property, and on the motion of Messrs Evans and Campbell the acting-chairman was empowered to acquire the necessary option. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN On the motion of Mr Evans, the election of a chairman was deferred until next meeting. Accounts amounting to £IBO 14s 7d were approved and passed for payment.
