THE LYRIC QUARTETTE.
Popular as Ever. The forty minutes entertainment civen by the Lyric Quartette at each of the Chautauqua sessions is greatly appreciated by the audience every time. The popular four are encored again and again, and the public are obviously loath to see them disappear from the fooiights. Mr A H Ripley's beautiful silver tenor is of unfailing charm, producing notes of wondrous sweetness and softness, combined with remarkable range and a power of expression possible only by a singer possessing great temperamental qualities. His rendition of " Bonnie Mary of Argylo " was something to enthuse about. The second tonor, Mr J. W. •' kaui, couios a good second to the load, and merits the repeated encores he gets, as does also Mr J. W. Ryan, bass. Mr Alan McElwain, baritone and humorous monologue artist, has lost none of his old familiar appeal, aud the great delight of the audience is unfailingly expressed in clamourous demands of the Oliver Twist order—we want more, The accompauiste, Mrs Ripley, has a charming touch, and a wondrous sympathy with the singers, her work being an artistic entertainment in itself.
