VALEDICTORY.
Mr A. N. Watson. A farewell smoke concert was tendered to Mr A. N. (" Pom ") Watson, who, for the last thirteen months has been teller at the local branch of the National Bank and who has been transferred to Hamilton, in the Carnival tea rooms on Friday evening. There was a large attendance of personal friends of Mr Watson and a most convivial evening was spent The Mayor, Mr 0 K. Lawrie, presided A number of toasts were honoured including that of " Our Guest " Various speakers referred to the (qualifications possessed by Mr Watson as a vocalist and a comedian, and expressed regret at his departure from Pukekolie, one speaker remarking that Pukekohe's loss of Mr Watson in musical circles would be Hamilton's gain. They also referred to him as a prominent cricketer, being a member of the local cricket club and expressed regret at his departure from the Cricket Club. All wished him success and prosperity in the future "For He's a Jolly Good Fellow " was rendered, after which Mr Watson suitably responded. The Mayor, on behalf of his friends, presented Mr Watson with a handbag as a mark of the esteem and appreciation in which he was held. During the evening supper was partaken of and vocal items rendered by Messrs Watson, Jones, Wilson, Oldham, O'Malley and Hastings were appreciated. A convivial evening terminated with the rendering of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem.
