DRAINAGE WANTED
Health Conditions Bad Infectious Diseases Common Mr C. Roailey, speaking at a meeting of the Pukekohe Chambor of Commerce last night, said it was high time the Borough Council moved in the matter of drainage. There had been several cases of typhoid fover and diphtheria, due to surface water lying about. The president ( tfr R. F. Webster) supported, commenting that Pukekohe had an unenviable name in the Auckland Hospital, owing to the number of cases of infectious diseases sent in. Mr W. Hurle said he did not think any local body should provide a water supply without first providing the means of draining. When there was a tanks supply only, the water was conserved, but there was a very lavish use of water where a high pressure system existed. Mr T. E. McMillan said a prominent townsman had remarked to him that as the people were now paying 6 pence per week for the sanitary service it would greatly help to pay interest on a loan for drainage. It was decided to write to the Borough Council re the matter.
