Deputation to Council Petition to Minister A deputation from the Pukekohe Chamber of Commerce waited on the Borough Council on Wednesday iu reference to the proposed cattlo sub way The president (Mr RF. Webster) said the Chamber were prepared to assist in every way. The subway would be of great value all round, hut the most important aspect was the safety of the junior portion of the population, particularly in view of the fact that a technical hiuh cchool, at which scholars from all puts would attend, was shortly to lie erected iu Harris street. Mr Webster also referred to the neglect of the Railway Department iu not erecting tho subway when the grade easomont was being done some years ago. He hoped a combined deputation would meet the Minister of Kailways in the matter when lie was visiting the district Mr F. Perkins (chairman of the Pukekohe School Committee) pleaded lor action on behalf of the school children. The request was agreed, and wi'l be further gone into. Cr D. R, Ilami'ton then produced a petition, kindly prepared, free of cost, by Mr Percy Basley, and addressed to the Minister for Railways, advocat : ng the subway. The matter of ttie petition was on similar lines to what appeared iu a leading article in the Times some weeks ago. It was decided that the Council support the petition.
