BOROUGH FOOTPATHS

Cost Estimated at £1164 In a report on the cost of permanently laying down footpaths in the Borough, with restar or double dis tailed tar, shelled and rolled, the foreman, Mr S 1 J. Clews At Wednes day meetiag, said the work would cost about £l9l per mile for pathsix feet wide, as there were about six mil 99 of footpaths still to bo done, a loan of £ll6l was necessary to put the paths on a footing with those in other boroughs The six miles would embrace the following footpaths: Harris street to Jackson's corner, West street to Jackson's corner, Queen street to cemetery corner, Seddon street to Catholic Church, Dublin street to Ryan's corner, Harrington Avenue, Edinburgh, ard Hall streets, one side; Koulston's Avenue, one s ; de; Prospect Terrace one side; East street, Albert street, Tobin stri-et and Franklin R-ad 10 chains The report was adopted, it being pointed out that it was obtained for the purpose of submitting loan proposals to ratepayers. VRAXICLIN ROAD EXTENSION The Foreman also reported having inspected Franklin road, and found that to complete it to the present Borough boundary would not, in hi * opinion, be of any great advantage to the Borough, unless it was carried on to Z!ape Xlill. The cost of such an undertaking entirely depended upon which route was tiken. Ho added that thero was quite an easy grade to be got, by going along the old railway line, and the cost of construction would be fairly light, excepting one lilling at the Cope Hill end The wiiolo of the workwould cost approximately £H'iO. During the subsequent discussion it was pointed out that the road would make a good stock route. The Mayor sni.l he thought it would be possible to get a Government grant to do the work On the motion of Cr Daysh, it wns decided to apply for a grant of £">UO to do the work.
