MANUKAU COUNTY WORK.
Engineer's Report. The following are extracts from the report submitted to the Manukau County Council on Wednesday by the engineer. Mr W..J. Lopdell. Mangere Riding —General road work has been curried out during the month, the following roads having received metal and scoria . Massey road, Mi yards metal and 14 yards of scoria ; Walmsley road, I yards of metal; Station road, (> yards of metal: Hucklaud road. 12 yurds of metal: Favona road. .' yards of mot.il. Mr Buckthought has about 300 cubic yards of spalls at the Spring's quarry. Papakura Riding.- The lorry lias been engaged a considerable part of the month hauling metal to the following Weymouth road, l<So yards of metal put on and rolled; Alfriston road, 7 yards of metal; Queen street, Alfriston, .'{ yards of scorin ; Brown's road ,\\i yards of scoria. Several culverts have been replaced on various roads. D. Aitkenhead is making good progress in Howe's quarry, where he has between 500 and GOO yurds of spalls. Foreman Lucas has had his time fully occupied with the plant, hence the delay in starting the kerbing in Manurewa. Tenders returnable to-day, have been called for the gum trees on Finlayson's road. Papatoetoe Riding. Good work has been done during the month in this riding, and the following roads treated: I'uhi Nui road, 6 yards of metal, also 7 lurch posts erected at a dangerous gully; Whitten's corner. 3*5 yards of scoria, and 21 yards of metal; Great South road, li yards of screenings ; Tamaki-Howick road. :>? yards of screenings. Five loads of facing stone have been carted to Leighton's Gully for future facing. Re Mr J. Out ram's crossing, as there is not sufficient covering for pipes, arrangements have been made for a stone crossing, which Foreman Blank will attendjto as early as possible I have inspected the creek which Mr McKen/.ie states is being backed into his property. As far as 1 can see there lias been no change in the tlow of water for some years. The culvert which the creek Hows through under the side track (which is a great convenience for traction engine traihc) seems to cope with the water in normal times.
