VALEDICTION AT PATUMAHOE
Mr and Mrs J. B. Goldsworthy (Staff Representative) A large number of friends of Mr and Mrs J. B. Goldsworthy and family assembled in the Patumahoe Hall on Friday night to bid farewell to two old and highly esteemed residents, Mr and Mrs Goldsworthy, who will shortly bo residing at Devonport, North Shore, the evening taking the form of a dance and presentation. In making presentations of a valuable gold watch to Mr Goldsworthy, and a fine travelling rug to Mrs Goldsworthy, tho Mayor of Pukekohe (Mr C. K. Lawrie) said that Mr Goldsworthy had resided in the district for forty years, on part of the well-known " Wollswood "
estate, aud Mrs Goldswurthy came to the district twenty-eight yoars ago. The tormor had been president of the Mavku Athletic Club for '2B years, and for 20 years was starter; also, he had been a member of the local school committee for eight years and seven as chairman He had been a member of the Cricket Club, for 25 yea's, and had ably represented the Manukau Cricket Association for many years in competition with other centres Mrs Goldsworthy had also always been helpful in social work, and her kindly characteristics had endeared her to a large circle of friends. Mr Lawrie referred to the visit of members of the Pukekohe Bowling Club to Whangarei last season, during which he had " exhibited " Messrs. Goldsworthy and Howard as samples of what fine men the district could grow and applause). Mr Goldsworthy was a fine type of character, of unimpeachable integrity, generous to a fault, and a manly, sportsmanlike Britisher every inch of him
(Applause). The district could illafford to lose such men, and on behalf of the many friends assembled, he wished both every happiness in their new home. —Musical honours. On behalf of Mrs Goldsworthy and his own, Mr Goldsworthy fittingly responded, heartily thanking the donors for their handsome gifts, and expressing the hope that they (the recipients) would be able to visit Patumahoe in the future, and renew acquaintance with such warmhearted friends. The watch was inscribed as follow.*-. "Presented to J. B. Goldsworthy, Es'i , by his friends of Patumahoe and the surrounding district; also tho Mauku Athletic Cluh, on th» occasion of his leaving the district, in appreciation of his services as a faithful worker." Music for tho dance was supplied by Messrs W. Howard, J. Hunter (violin) and E Phillips (piano), while extras werr played by Missos Howard and Fulton.
