CONVENT CONCERT.

Creditable Performance

The Premier Hall was the centre of attraction on Thursday night, the occasion being the annual concert given by the pupiU of the local Convent School. Residents from far and near assembled in large numbers and long before the advertised time of commencement the seating accommodation was fully taxed and it was found necessary to abtain a number of f xlra seats The stage was beautifully decorated with greerery and presented a brilliant spectacle. When all were seated the Rev. Father Molloy appeared on the platform and announced that the Mayor, Mr C. K. Lawiie, would open the proceedingr. Mr Lawrie, in declaring the entertainment open, on behalf of the organisers than kid n'l who had assisted with the ar)r.ngenients, especially Mr J. Russell and his staff, for the beautiful stage (].'corations ; which w6re gorgeous. He alio thanked the audience for attending in such large numbers. During the changes of scenes in the latter Miss M. Pulman rendered a couple of pleasing items, while Miss Lynch contributed a dance, both of which were well received. The ertertainment, considering that everything was arranged in a very short space of time, was in keeping with past efforts and the promoters deseive no end of praise for their achievement. The items* on th< whole were exceedingly well render ul (especially Miss Lulu O'Cotvor's recitation) and signified that m. stone had been left unturned to present the pupils in a thoroughly ffficiei:' manner. This was strikingly demonstrated in the smooth running of the concert The three-act drama, " Ancella's Debt," was also a very creditable performance, the leading light being little Miss S. Martinengo, who, as " Betsy Collins," gave a really performance, and was well supported by the cast in general. A final chorus ended on* of the best concerts of the year,
