PAPATOETOE.
SOOUT BAND. A public meeting called by the chairman of the Papatoetee Town Board and Tamaki Road Board was held in St John's Hall on Tuesday, September 30tb, to consider ways and means of liquidating the debt on the instruments of the Scout Band. The promoters of the meeting were very disappointed at the small attendance of the residents of the district. Mr Watson (Papatoetoe chairman) in addressing the meeting, said that the Scout Band was worthy of all the assistance they could possibly give, they having assisted at all the public functions of any consequence, for the last two years, without any renumeration whatsoever. He thought now was the time when we , could show our appreciation of their services by piping off the debt, which amounted to between £7O or £BO. Messrs Watson, Hall, Timewell, Wilson and Waters were elected a committee to co operate with the Band Committee to <1 vise a scheme whereby the debt might be piil off
BOWLING & CROQUET CLUB The Bowling and Crrquet Clubs held a very successful concert in the Papatoetoe Town Hall on Wednesday, October Ist., an excellent programme being provided. Mrs Lennard gave a pianoforte solo, which elicited loud applause, and she had to respond to a decided encore. Songs were rendered by the following ladies: Mrs Waddell, Misses Greville, McConnell and Pikett. Also, Messrs Whyte and Hocken, each artist being encored. Mr Harris gave several recitals, which created y, good deal of merriment, and he was recalled time and again till he informed the audience it was his bed time. A boat song by eight girls was very prettily given. ■
