DISTRICT NEWS.
PAPATOETOE. RETUBNED 80LD1ER8' BALL A ball given to the residents of Papatoetoe and district by the returned soldiers was held in the Town Hall, Friday 26th, about 400 guests being present, and a very enjoyable evening was spent. The floor was in splendid order, many declaring: it the best floor lor dancing in the Auckland Province. Mesdames O'LoughHn, WyJlie, Finlayson, Swpffield and Massey were the chaperons. There were msny charming dresses worn, among which were the following: Mesdames (Dr) Mardonald, cream crepe de cbine; Wilfred Johnson, black si'k; Dilworth, black silk. Misses McDonald, pale blue crepe de chine; McAtthur, black velvet; 8." ge, vieux- rose si'k; Hall, black velvet; Waitney, pink geogette; Mellsop, white silk; Kirk, electric blue satin; Beaney, lemon georgette; Watson, black velvet, -.elieved with pink ; Qcodfellow, Champagne georgette; M Goodfellow, white cr.pe de chine; M. Wylhe, black velvet; H. Bmnside, wb'te satin and net; Thome, emerald green satin; O'LoughHn, cream crepe de chine; F. O'LoughHn, white crepe de chine; Wood, white satin 8»)d net; Allen, ctiUe and blue satin; W. Bu\ jside, white crepe de cbine; Cutfoith, black net over satin ; Pikett, black beaded net; Cauuth, white crepe de chine: Burnside, black net over silk; Wills, wbite crepe de chine. At the supper adjournment, Mr C. O'Hara, on behalf of the retuined soldiers, thanked the Returned Boldiers' reception Committee for the splendid way ; n which they had treated the boys on their return from the seat of war. Mr J. Watson, chairman of the Town Board, replying, and thanking the soldiers for the good time they (the guests) were having that evening.
BOWLING. Some interesting games were played oo the bowling green on Saturday, 27th. McDonald, Gallo way, Knight (skip) 22, beat Campbell, Bryant, Rawnsley (skip) 19; Wills, Hunter, Cut forth (Skip) 19, beat Haunderson, Gladding, Bryett (skip) 18; Symetherman, Gubb, Brown, Daisley (skip) 30, beat Cave, Biaistreet, Watson, Wilson (skip) 10.
NAVAL VISITORS On Wednesday 24th, Papatnetoe was visited by 100 Blue Jankers from the New Zealand. After a motor drive from Auckland they pulled up at the Town Hall, where the ladies of the Soldiers' Reception Committee had provided refreshments for about 300 men whi«:h they had been advised would form the party. However, though not the number expected, it did not deter them from having a good time, and one and all expressed a wish that they might have the good fortune to get a return trip to Fapatoetoe. After full justice had been done to the good things provided hakas and ?»i dances were given by the atuaki Maori?, after which the floor was cleared for dancing. Hearty cheers were given by the assembled residents as the sailors resumed their journey to town.
