A. AND P. SOCIETY.
Executive Meeting. Continued from Tuesday's issue. FINANCIAL MEMBERS TO WEAK RIBHOXS. In connection with the matter of providing financial members with something to show that they had paid their subscriptions, as discussed at the annual meeting, the secretary stated he had written to Taranaki A. and P. Society in regard to the matter, and bad received a reply to the effect that at Taranaki ribbons were issued to financil members and these had proved a success. Members were of opinion that a trial ought to be made, but some were against the suggestion being adopted right away. Mr J. Roulston moved and Mr Dynes Fulton seconded, that the suggestion be adopted. Mr J. Pollock moved as an amendment and Mr C K. Lawrie secondad, hat the matter be referred to the finance committee to consider and report on at next meeting. This was lost by eight votes to six. A further amendment that Taranaki be thanked for its information, and that consideration be deferred until next meeting was moved by Mr J. Wylie, and seconded by Mr J. Pollock, was also lost, and the motion carried PIG BREEDING With a view of encouraging the breeding of pigs by youths up to the age of 15 to 16 years, Mr Percy H Basley, solicitor, of Pukekohe, waited on the members, and said he was prepared to donate trophies to the value of £■> 5 s as prizes in connection with the pig classes at the forthcoming Show. His object, he stated, was to foster and encourage the breeding of pigs by boys, being of the opinion that if the boys took an interest in the pig, they should be encouraged, and when they became farmers they would then benefit by their experience. He stipulated that the pig was to-be the property of the boy, to be attended to, and fed by him, a certificate to be obtained from the father to this effect. There was a great future in the pig, he added, and he was sure that the pigs could be reared by means of artificial foods and selfgrown fodder, in lieu of skim milk. The President said it was gratifying to have a newcomer to the district te take such an interest in the Society, and offer such a substantial prize. Mr Basley's offer would be accepted, and he had no doubt that it would tend to improve the breeding of pigs On bis motion the offer was accepted and the donor heartily thanked. Mr J. Wylie said that the pig was the most profitable animal to the small farmer. Mr Dynes Fulton said at the previous shows the pig classes were very poor. Thers was very little competition. A considerable profit was made out of pigs. The question as to what classes the prizes should be awarded caused a discussion, and eventually Messrs J. Pollock, H. Keith and A. Moore were appointed a sub-committee to consider the matter with Mr Basley. The motiou of thanks to the donor was carried by acclamation. NEW MEMBERS The following new members were elected: Messrs P. H. Basley, F H. Hewitt, W. P. Hopkins, and H. Horrocks, E. R. Allen, and Butler Aka). i'ROrOSED SUBWAY In connection with the proposed subway, from Harris Btreet, which the Railway Department was to have constructed some time ago, the secretary said the Mayor, Mr 0. K. Lawrie, would be attending the Municipal conference, while in Wellington, he thought he could see the Minister for Railways with regard to the matter. He added that it was through the negligence of the Railway Department that the subway was not there now. A subway would prove beneficial to stock and of interest to the district. On the motion of Mr Fulton, Mr Lawrie was instructed to interview the Minister of Railways on the matter, while in Wellington to see what action the Department intended taking.
