BLACKLEG.
Warning to Farmers, "Vith the object of preventing blackleg spreading amongst stock, tho Inspector of Stock is taking rigi<i precautions, and every step possible. Still some farmers insist upon breaking the regulations, and if they wore conversant with the heavy peaalties that is tho punishment for such a breach, they would be more careful in future. As a warning to tho farming community, Mr John Dean, farmer, of Pokeno, was before tho Mercer Court, recently presided over byMrF. K. Hunt, iS.M, charged with transferring 11 head of cattle from a blackleg affected area to an unaffected area. That ho transferred the 14 head fiom I'okeno to tho Westfield saleyards without a certificate, that they were free from blackleg, from the Stock Inspec'or The Magistrate imposed a line of £l4 together with costs. He pointed out tint this ehould prove a warniog t> farmers and added thut the maximum penalty was £2OO.
