Monday Night's Meeting

Tho fortnightly meeting of the I'apakura Town Board was held on Monday evening Mr D. W. Jones (chairman) presiding. Other members present were: Messrs E. I>. McLennan, S. Evans, A. Wallis, E. D. Other members did likewise, a; d Mr Wallis briefly returned thanks DEPUTATIONS Mr E. S. Cole waited on the Board with regard to a culvert across Cole's Crescent, being the outlet of Awatea stream. He pointed out that the culvert at the outlet was only about a quarter of the size of a culvert higher up on the Great S v.ith Road, and therefore would not carry the water away. Ever since the culvert was there, his land had been flooded more or less, and consequently his fruit trees were damaged, and subsequently the land had to be abandoned. He had cleaned the creek out himself but could not do it any longer. Recently he was flooded out-water a foot deep laying in his garden. Cattle drovers, too, had a difficulty in getting cattle across, and numbers had spoken to him requesting him to use his influence to have the matter remedied.

Mr Jones said plans had been prepared for a concrete culvert, at a cost of £6O. He quite recognised that stockmen were inconvenienced, and added that it was the worst road he had seen for many years. He had the matter under consideration and intended embodying it in a Loan proposal. Mr Cole said he hoped the work would he put in hand expeditiously. The scheme has yet to be adopted by the Board said Mr Jones. Mr D. B. Stewart waited on the Board and requested the Board to attend to a drain on (Settlement Road near his property. He pointed out that last year he had brought the matter up, and was agreeable to contribute towards remedying the matter. The matter he complained of was in connection with drainage from a private house being thrown into the drain. His offer still held good. DOMAIN lease.

In reply to the Board's letter, its solicitor advised that the Board had no power to lease any portion of a public domain, or to give to a tennis club the exclusive use of a public domain for a term of years The Board could not give any security of tenure and the club would have to rely upon the Board and public respecting their interests if they decided to spend any money upon the property: - Received GENERAL. Mr James Croskery wrote drawing the Board's attention to the state uf a ditch on road at the bottom of Mrs Lynch's property. He pointed out that the ditch was filled up and was blocking the water in its natural outlet towards Hunua.—lt was decided to inspect the di'ch on Wednesday at two o'clock, to see what required to fce done. Mr Chas. H. H. Ankett, drew the attention of the Board to the great inconvenience caused to the public generally in being unable to pass perambulators through the turnstile gates on both frizes of tho Railway Reserves, lie pointed out that though there was a public paik, the public Lad no thorouhfare as it was quite useless to families that required the use of perambulators At the present time pram "pushers' had to wend their way past the creamery co.ner.
