The Times. PUBLISHED ON TUESDAY AND FRIDAY AFTERNOONS. 'We nothing extenuate, nor set down auaht in malice. TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 2, 1919 OURSELVES.
Readers of the Times will note that with this issue a change is made in the title of the paper. In place of " The Pukekohe and Waiuku Times," the title " The Franklin and Pukekohe Times" is now our registered name. Before stating the reasons for the change, let us hasten to assure our subscribers at Waiuku and the surrounding district places of Aka Aka, Otaua, Glenbrook, Pukeoware, Kar'otahi, Waipipi, Kobe Kohe, and Awhitu, that the alteration does not in any way signify a cold-shouldering of that large and prosperous area, where there are a considerable number of residents who have been subscribers to the Times since its birth, and from where new names are frequently added to our steadily increasing postal list The reason ts that as there are a number of rising towns of considerable importance in the Franklin, Raglan, and Mauukau counties, which regard the Times as their district paper, and for which places the Times provides a local news service, it is not fitting that the name of auy one town, except of that in which the paper is published, should appear in the title. For example, the Times is a recognized local paper in Tuakau, Mercer, Ouewhero, Pukekawa, Patumahoe, Drury, Papakura, Clevedon, Manurewa, Papatoetoe, and many other places, but ncne of these names has ever appeared in our title. In regard to the name "Franklin," it is also fitting that as the Times is published in the leading town of the Ftanklin County, and is represen'ative of this County, the word "Franklin" should take precedence Summed up, the change in title is an expression of our desire, by avoiding all semblance of par.ialitv, fairly and fully to represent everv town in our territory, giving eacli a due share of publicity, according to status and reciprocity of interests.
