PUKEKOHE BOWLING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING ENTHUSIASTS OF THE UIiEEN 1919-20 IN JOYFUL PROSPECT With a goodly bias towards the time-honoured game tho game we might conclude, from history, that gave Drake the steady nerve an I cool judgment necessary to defeat the Spanish Armada—members of the Pukekohe Bowling Club attended the annual meeting, held in the Borough Council chambers, in force on Saturday night, the President (Mr H. Bockett) occupying tho chair. f'OXDOI.EXCK. At the request of tho President, those present stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mrs C. Clarke secretary's repout. The Executive reported as follows: finances to be in a healthy condition, in spite of the fact of increased cost of labour in the care-taking; but we consider the wisdom of having a caretaker has been clearly demonstrated to you all as players, and the evpense is quite a justifiable one. The club has engaged in several inter-club and open competitions during the past season, and has had quite a large measure of success, the chief of which was the taking and holding ol the Anzac Cup, which now, on special occasion, adorns the club's pavilion, there to stand as a monument to the good judgment of your Match Committee, and your collective ability as players. Teams from the club have competed in the many different tourneys in the Auckland province, from Te Aroha in the south to Whangarei in the north, and we feel this fact adds much to the outside popularity of your members and also of your club. We heartily congratulate Messrs Fitness, Pleydell, Goldsworthy, and Cuff, on their success in open tourney at Whangarei; also, Messrs W. Blake, Fitness, David Roulston, and Daysh, on the distinction of being " runnersup " at the Dominion road tourney; also, to Mr C. M. Wright, for his success in the pairs at Cambridge; and Messrs A. Gill, W. Crisp, W. Wilson, and \V. Wright, for their well-merited success in our local Labour Day tourney. Always remember ' nothing succeeds like success,' and we wish every member to compete in open and local competitions as much as possible, never forgetting that if the game is worth playing it is worth playing well We deplore with you the loss of our late brother bowler, Mr W. Ramsey, who during the latter end of the season passed peacefully away, well over the age of three score years and ten, Let us, also, not forget our friend and comrade, the late John Bowden, who fell in battle, fighting for your freedom and ours. In conclusion, we record, with regret, tho loss to tho club of several fine members, whose duty and residence caused them to leave the district Our loss will surely prove someone's gain, but we seek consolation in the fact that the future may offer us many chances of renewing old friendships and associations." ItAI.AXCE SHEET The balance sheet showed a credit of £SB lis 3d. The secretary explained that by October Ist this amount would probably be reduced to about £2l 15s, as interest and other items of expenditure would require meeting by that date. The amount biought forward lrom last year was £l3 9s therefore, on the whole, this year's statement was very satisfactory. —Expressions of approval.
