Engineer's Report. At the monthly mooting of the Frank!'!.' County Council, the engineer, Mr J F McAithur r< ported as follows:
Contracts: Tendon worn invited roturnal le on the 2Sth day of .luno for iho following works: Contract No 3fi9 : For forming and. culverting Geraghty's road, Tuakau, 34J chains. Tender received from J J Poland, £77, accepted. Contract No 371 : For forming and culverting 9J chains of Tramway ro.ul ne:rr (joughlan's lender received from Messrs Patterson and Dougherty, £"1 Oh I'd, not accepted. As the County t lams plant will he available shortly T would suggest that the work under thin contract he carried out hy our own plant
Tenders wore also invited, returnable on the 12th of July foi contract No 372 for forming, culvorUng, and charing 7"> chains 78 links of the Paparimu, Manngatawhiii Road. The following tenders heing r ceiyed: C Home, £1241 5s 2d, ,T Ai'chison, £ll'.if)fis I would recoranvnd that the lowest tender, that of J Aitchison be accepted. Dining the month a contract was let to Mr Edward Hunter fo» quarrying andspawling 500cuhic '.aids of spawls at Grirumer's quarry, Waiuku. The contract piici being at the rate of 5s per cubic yard. £125. I might mention that this contract was pievionsly advertised. No tenders then being received the matter of lotting the contact at a suitable price was left to the Riding member interested and myscl f. - Completed contracts: Works under tho following contracts h ve been completed, final payments fT same appear in the lists of accounts for same:

Contmct No 21)3: For forming creamery road, Bombay, contractor, Gaiter Bros Contract No 344 a for carting metal from Karaka quany on to t!,e Waiuku Drury Road. Con! rat ■' >r CJ. Renwick. Contract No 317: for forming portion of Waiuku Drury r- i-,d, contractor, A J Moore. Spawhng contracts Manukau Harbour landings: The contractor Mr W N Mcintosh who has three contracts foi supplying and delivering spawls at different landings on the Manukau harbour has now made a s'.art and delivered approximately NO cubic yards at the Whongamaire upper landing. The total qu mtity of stone to be delivered under these three contracts is 10,500 cubic yards. Arrangements are being made to excavate a suitable landing at (Hassan's Whangamniro lower landing and form a suitable access road. A good quantity of stone should be available for crushing at theso landings (luring the coming summer. Spawling contract Patumahoe Waiau Road: This contract which was lot to M(S<rs McSheen Bros and s party is prrgessidg there being now approximately 13.!") cubic yards of stone delivered out on roa'd and ROD cubic yard quarried and spawlod in tho quany Tho total quantity of stone to be delivered tinner this contract is 4000 cubic yards, the greater portion of this stone will bo available for crushing early in tho summer. ['aparirrm Maungatawhiri Road: Work is at present in progress under our foreman with County plant ro forming and clearing slips on tho above road, this portion of the road was corshucted by the Public Works Department. A Government grant of £201) having now been provided to do the necessary work of putting the road m got.d repair.

Irish Road, Mercer: A compliant was received at last meeting with reference to the bad state of this road. After insertion, it was found that before , .y ruad works could be put in h.iuJ tho i.lackboirios along; Mr SicOlay's frontage would have to be cut. Tho necessary notice has boon sent to Mr McClay regarding tho cutting of tho blackberries. Mcl'lierson's Road, Maungatawhin Valley. -Mr McPherson wrote complaining about tho state of this road as left alter the Council's teatLs had carted m.nal ovor it. Arrangements have now been made to make repairs with metal, Mr McPherson to find the necossiry labour. Ro letter reeoivod from Mr E. TT. Builungham, Mercer riding, asking for metal to bo put on the road leading to his residence. After inspeitim, it was found that the road was not in a lit state to receive metal at the present 'imn. MrT. Bilk >y, of Bucklaud, brought before your < 'ouncil's notice the stato of tho entrance to his property. This is found to be a small matter, and could be remedied by the clearing of pipe.', and a small amount of earthwork This work can be under* taken by the riding foreman. Rami Rnna-Tuhiiuata road -Mr Puilman, i liama Rama, wrote some lime ag>> ni| nesting that a culvert under (!•.<• above road be lowered, to enable him to dram a swamp on his property jl'lie embankment is high ever the i-ulvert, and it would take a f.a'n amount of labour to lower the inlverl to the required di pth. Mr l'ullm m, uowevi r, is pieparod to bear half cost, and is satistied to let
the work stand over t<'ll later in the year. I would recommend that the request lie granted, and that the work be undertaken when funds permit. Peters' Frontage, Fukekohe-Tua-kau Road : Levels have been taken plong the road, and it has been found that there is a considerable fall along; Mr Peters' frontage to drain all water away. About one day's work with a team would do all the necessary work. Outfall > Drain from PapakuraPonga Road : This drain pasres through Mr Totman's propeity, and wa« covered with timber slabs by the late Road Roard, 'These slabs hive now rotted, ranking the drain dangerous. IP Mr Totman no v asks tint the drain be piped. The pipe) required would he fifty 12in. ones, ai.d Mr Tntman would do the nectary labour The approximate cost of the pipes would he £ls, provided fourth quality could be procured. County poirible stone crushing plant: The plant has been crushing for the past month in the Drury Riding and will be coming int) the County yard forrep3 : rs this week.
Should tho wea f her prove satisfactory it is proposed to proceed to Waiuku and crush the several small lots of stone available there. Teams plant: The teams plant during the month Las been working off the Manngatiwhiri Valley and Great South Road between Mercer and Pokeno and is at present engaged making some improven ents to the south road betwrm Pok.no Hill and Kazorback. When this work is completed the plant wi'l bo available for works requiring attention in other pars of the County as your Coined may direct. The report was adopted.
Treasurer's Report. The Treasurer (Mr Alan P. Day) reported that the total del.it balance of the County Fund Account was £14,157 lis Id. Transfer from Loan Account, balance of Government subsidy now due on 19IS. 10 rates, and Government grsnt ond other moneys due to this Account amount to £2,500. The accounts now due a-id pay alio from this Account amount to £1,860 lis sd. ORURY. FARMERS' UNION. A me -ting of the Drury Branch of Farmers' Union was held in the Drury nail on Monday evening, about the average attendance beirg present, with Mr W. H. C. Glassr.n in the chair. Several items of local interest were discussed, and on the motion of Mr R. Br.-gman the secro tary w.v to write to the Franklin drawing thr-ir attention to the large number of pine logs which will soon be carted ou: to the station, and pointing out the need of a guarantee f..i the damage which is likely to bo done to tho roads.
