TOWN BOARD
The monthly meeting of the above Hoard was held on Tuesday night. Present: Messrs James A. Pirret, James Mungoll, B. 0. Goraghty, W. Barnaby. In tho absence of Mr Dynes Fulton, Mr Pi; rot was voted to the chair. C. Pinch, George Lapwood and the clerk, Mr A 11. Tapper. CONDOLENCE On the motion of the chairman, the Board ron and stood in silence as a ma>k of respect to the late Mr P. Lewis, who had always been associated with public work. The clerk was instructed to write to Mrs
Lewis, exproßsing the Board's sympathy. DRAINAGE Mr J. J. Dromgool asked for eight ono-foot drain pipes at cost price to put in a culvert in Geraghty' road. On the motion of the chairman, seconded by Mr Lapwood, tho request was acceded to. BUILDINCI Mr L. Foulkes submitted plans for two workmen's cottages. The Board's Engineqr reported that he could not ad\ ise the approval of the plans it less fmrher particulars were supplied. " A'«o, I think some guarantee should be given by Mr Foulkes that ho will build soundly constructed cottagei. I suggest a deposit of £IOO, with proper proVision of the money to the Board in case jeiry work is done. Last t'rne Mr Foulkes practically snapped his fingers at us, having obtained a peirait on the strength of his promises. I regret having to write as above, and state plainly that unless the owner Is prepared to make sahsfae!ory plans aud specifications, and to give a suitable guarantee, I will have nothing furtLer to do with the matter.
The Board considered that in view of the shortage of houses, it was not dutiable to discourage building.— Ou the motion of Mr Pirret, seconded by Mr Barnaby, the application was granted. SUB-DIVISION The plan of Mr Jobu L Pirrett's •subdivision was passed. ArritoAciras Mr W Gubb protested against tho erection of wooden steps as an entrance into his place. Tho chairman said the Board had no idea of meeting wooden fences. Clerk instructed to reply accordingly, j ; nd that the engineer would be conmlted on the matter. COMPLETINO OEOROE STREET The engineer sent in a detailed estimato of £6*592 for completing George Stivat, including tar sealing, to the Tow a District boundary. It was, ho contended, neeassary to get a £l fori'l subsidy if this work was to be done. Received. AITUOACIIES Iu regard to Mrs Lang's application fur a c ossing, the chairman said tho Hoard wou'd do tho work if the applicant world pay for it, as others had done Mr Mungf M said the footpath was extremely s'ippeiy, and almost impossible to negotiate at right-t"me. He thought mot'l chips should be laid as had been done at othor places.
