The utilisation of County reserves in the Meicer riding for Council purposes was strongly urged by Cr J. Koith. He stated that at Pokono Valley, a resorvo of 1"> acres, of which 10 acres was really excellent land, was allowed to go to ruin, through the lessee not taking care of it. lie understood that tho present lessee had decided not to continue leasing the resorvo. lie thought the re&erve could bo advantageously utilised for grazing tho teams. At present it A'as covered in blnckbor ries, and ho suggested putting the surfacemen on to cloar it during tho winter. We should sot an example to the property owners. We are the biggest law breakers in the country. (Laughter). The chaiimau joined in. and stated that the Council leased tho reserves, but in the past nevor en forced tho lessees to keep them cloar of noxious weeds We wi'l have to do so in the future. Cr Keith moved that tho Council
retain the Pokeno Valley reserve for its own use. Carried. The matter of clearing it was left to Cr Keith anil tho Engineer. The condition of tho Faerata creek was instanced by Cr Woods, lie stated that the ratepayers in tho locality wanted the creek blasting out, aud for this work they were prepared to go in for a loan. lie moved that tho engineer preparo nn estimate for the work of clearing the croek right to the borough boundary. Carried. He th< tight the borough ratepayers may contribute something to have the work done on their properties. Or Wilcox said that the mm who had purchased Colonel Logan's property at Buckland had asked him if it was possiblo to got reasonable time in which to clear the creek
which ran through the property. The wat«r at this time of the year was too cold to get into to char it. At a latf r stngo the clerk read an application from tho man (Mr F. M Keano). lie pointed r.u f , that as tho creek was flooded and tho water was too cold; he desired un extension of time lis was quito willing to do tho work. On tho motion of Cr Wilcox he was granted until tho end of Jauuiry to complete tho undor taking Cr Keith roportcd tliat good work had heen done on the Mangatangi road, but during tin* whole i f the winter a wagon, drawn by six horses, carting timtinr ard brick*, had cut the road up; and it was now impassable. The pnople using tho road

Cr Wilcox drow tho Council's Attention to tho shto of a small resoive, between his and Col. Logan's property, which was covered in noxious weeds. On his motion the engineer was instructed to tike the necessary steps to have it clean d. C r Montgomery suggostrd that it would be a good seliemo to plant trees on these reserves It would improve the appearance and would also tend t > koep tho reserves clean. On tho motion of Cr Short, the clerk was instructed to tako tho necessary steps to have the budge and road near Mr West head's property, in lus riding, legulined.
