LETTERS TO THE EDITOR.
LOCAL TRADING Sir, —Farmers and residents are continually advised through the medium of your useful paper to do their trade locally, and no doubt the spirit of your reasoning is quite logical; but the question arises, Do the local traders give us a fair deal ? Recently I had occasion to procure a small fitting for a disc plow, and I sent to tho local agents for the part required. I was charged 6s 6d for it, and considering the price an outrageous one, I returned it. Being in the city shortly after, I went to the agency and secured the fitting for 2s. On calling at another shop not connected with any implement firm, and seeing the same part, I inquired the price, and was quoted 7s fid per dozen or fid each. To my mind, the sooner the farmers take in hand the manufacturing of farm implements the better, and not till this is done will small farmers be able to afford to buy all the implements they roquire, and so help to increase the output of their holdings -a most important matter in view of the present condition of our Dominion's financial obligations
