MONUMENT PITBLII meeting A largo gatlieiing of settlers assembled in the Public Hall at Pokeno on Friday night for the purposo of making final arrangements for tiie erection of ft suitable monument on a site to be chosen and the unveiling of a district Roll of Honour in the public school at Pokeno. Mr E. 11. Buckingham prosided over the meeting, and in his opening remarks S'lid there was room for n difference of opinion upon many subjects that we were called upon to discuss during lifo,Jbut the subject of a suitable Roll of Honour and monument for tho district, for tho purpose of porpetuating the memory of tho heroes that had died in honour of the British llag, to restore peace among tho nations, tho wide world over. The speaker said there could not bo two opinions with regard to our duty in doing our best
to provide some visible momento for the district, to perpetuate their memory, " lest wo forget " was required. A number of ladies and gentlemen took part in the meeting. A committee consisting of Joseph Anderson, Munro, Leitham, Dean, and Buchingham were appointed to canvass the district for subscriptions, and to call a further meeting to make final arrangements. It was also decided that the returned soldiers of the distirct be asked to unveil the Roll of Honour in the public school, on a date to be mutually arranged by the school committee and the returned soldiers of the district. The meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the chairman, proposed by Mr G. Dean, and seconded by Mr W. Graham, and the singing of the National Anthem.
