DRURY.
PEACE CELEBRATIONS.
Peace Day celebrations at Drury were held on Saturday. The school children and a large number of residents gathered at the school grounds, where a comprehensive Peace Day programme was carried out by a large band of enthusiastic workers. The Rev Hewlett and the Rev Hales addressed the gathering and especially the children, to impress upon them the importance of peace. Mr J. Flanagan read the King's Proclamation. The National Anthem was then sung and several patriotic songs were rendered by the children. Tho e present were then entertained at lunch. The afternoon was spent in games and sports, both for children and adults. Before the commencement of tea the children again sang patriotic and part songs and afterwards every child was presented with a handsomely printed Peace Souvenir card, which will help to keep them in mind of Peace Day in later years. After tea several trees were planted to leave a permanent mark of the historic event and then further games were played nntil after dusk by those who did not have to hurry home. Thus ended a enjoyable day that will long live in the minds of the people and the children of Drury. A Peace Ball decided on by the «ommittee will be held at a later date.
