Monthly Meeting. (Continued from Friday.) PATUMAIIOE REQUEST. Mr J. W. McLaren, Kainui estate, Patumahoe, wrote asking that the Council do some very necessar/ repair work, etc, on a road which passes some property he has bough t at Ardmore, adjoiuing Mr Craig's property. The property was formerly known as ''LuptonV It was decided to reply, statin.: that the matter would be attended t > as soon as the weather was suitable, providing noxious weeds were cut.

The District Engineer of the New Zealand railways, in reply to th > Council's letter in reference to th < Otaht.hu overhead rail.vay bridge, stated that the budge was built fo • the Labour Departruen', a? d an / alterations or improvements require*! would not be paid for by the Kaiiway Department. ]IOSI'ITAi. co\TßinurroNS. Tlio Auckland ITospital and Charitable Aid Board intimated that th ) Council's contribution of a Hospital rate of one fifth of a penny in the pound on £2,985,149 rateable value, amounted to £'2,487 12s Gd.
ItOAT) HOLLER. The Engineer, Mr W. J. Lopdell, suggested to the Council the importance of procuring a road roller. Ho pointed out that they were getting well over the shortest day and on to the spring months. If they let tho matter go along, it will be March before they could acquire. If they ordered immediately, it would bo ready for use in November. A roller, he added, was absolutely imperative, and it was advisable that the Council should purchase one. He had got into touch with a certain firm, and had ascertained that a motor roller could be purchased for about £1,500. They could do far better work with a roller, and less metal, he added. Councillors all knew th?.t a roller was needed.
Cr Howse favoured purchasing a roller, and he moved that the Engineer be instructed to make arrangements for the purchase of a roadroller and scarifier.
This was agreed to. Councillors thought that it would be a good plan to go in for a loan to acquire more plant.
BATES. It was decided to strike a general rate as follows : -Mangere riding, £d in tad £ ; Pakuranga, I'd; Papakura, Id ; Papatoetoe, |d ; Turanga, l£d; Wairoa, l^d. A hospital and charitable aid rate of one-fifth of a penny in the £ was struck over the whole of the County.
GRANTS APPLIED Foil. It was decided to apply for the following Government grants: Wairoa riding: Ness Valley road, £150; Mataitai road, £250 ; North road, £250; Parish line, £IOO. Papakura riding : Wiri bridge, Gt. South road, £I,OOO. Papatoetoe riding: Flat Bush, English Church bridge, £'2so ; Gillard'sbridge, £250 Mangere tiding: Black bridge, £SOO Pakuranga riding: i'anmure Howick road, £4OO. At the previous meeting it was decided that a special rating area should bo formed, to raise a loan of £IOO to (jualify for the Government grant for works on the Great South road. MANU ItF.SVA IIKIDOK LOAN. The Clork was instructed to make application to the Public Trust oliice for a loan of £2,0(1(1, for the purpose of constructing approaches to the Manurewa overhead bridges. UANI I'KI.Y UOAH. The plans and specifications for the work to be done on lianfurly road, Manurewa have been approved and forwarded to the '-'ublic Works Department for its endorsement. r.w SIIK.KT. Tiie pay-sheet, amounting to £1,070 5s .'d, was approved and passed fur payment.
