During the corresponding month of four previous years the fall was as follows : 1915, 425 inches ; 1916, 3.73 inches; 1917, 8.70 inches ; 1918, 3 53 inches.

During the hearing of the Assessment Court on Thursday Mr. E. Morgan, when giving evidence said his opinion was an unbiased one, whereas the owners of the land were biased. Mr H. E. R L. Wily said he did not know so much about that, as he thought it Mr Morgan's duty to get as much tax as ho could for the Government Mr Morgan, apparently admitted the soft impeachment, as he did not deny it. With a view to making slignt improvements to the pavilion at the Pukekohe Bowling Club's green, a small committee consisting of Messrs W. Blake, A. Gill, C. Lusher, Duncan Eoulston, C. Monty Wright, Walter Wright, H. Bockett, R. Fitness and Frank Perkins, has been set up to arrange fortnightly progressive euchre tournaments. Any proceeds from the functions will be devoted to the Pavilion fund.

The building committee of the Mauku " Victory " hall has accented a tender for the building of the hall, which will be commenced at an early date, and is to be completed by the •'SO th of September. The building will be 00 x 32ft, with a height of 1 Tit from floor to ceiling, and will be lined and ceiled with oiled rimu. The ladies of Mauku are already busily employed in preparing for a bazaar in aid of the building fund, which is to form the opening ceremony.

Although influenza has not made its appearance in the district to any marked degree, a great number of people are suffering from severe colds and bronchitis, and persons buffering from these complaints are warned not to neglect them, but to procure a supply of axquick cough balm from Fear's pharmacy, chemists, Pukekohe, and so avoid risks oi complications, and help a speedy cure. —Advt. 511
