and handy to the foremost city in the Dominion —that thousands of men from all parts of New Zealand would be able, at very little cost and inconvenience, to visit the farm, and pet first-hand informaHon and observation of the work and its results. The fact that agricultural and horticultural Shows are regular annual features in the meeting and distributing centre of the district is also a very considerable factor in favour of the proposal. The A. and P. Societv are deserving of the Highest commendation for initiating so eminently sensible and practicable a project, and we hope enthusiasm for the scheme will be fostered, and such driving force generated, that the proposed Franklin experimental farm will, at no very distant date, become an actual institution, giving help and guidance in a sphere where il Is needed more than any other, in a country the prosperity of which is almost wholly dependant upon the paoductivity of the soil, or, in other words, the volume and value of our exports.
