DAIRY AMALGAMATION

Enthusiastic Support PATUMAHOE. Quite a stir was caused here on Baturday night owing to the meeting called by the New Zealand Dairy Association and the Waikato Cooperative Association to consider the Amalgamation proposition, the place being crowded with people and motor cars.

Henry was amputated to preside, and formally irtroduced Messrs Kirkman and Motion on behalf of the NZDA and Mi D Fulton as representing the Waikato Co op Mr K-irkman opened the proceedings following on similar to thit reported at other places, Mr Fulton following, and Mr C. Motion, who is the District representative on the Directorate of the NZDA, concluded with a strong appeal to the suppliers to amalgamate in the interests of better prices and the advantage of the business as a whole. The Dairying representatives asked for the fullest discussion and en j quiry, with the result of many I quebtioDS, end a very free discussion of the various clauses of the proposed ami'gnm iti >n nd their probable eff-nts The Chairman, by permission ot the meeting read a letter to the pi6*B by Mr Gb-orge Ewing of Wiiangnrata, the points raised by Mr Ewingcau ing considerable dis cussion. Messrs Kirkmtn and Ful ton, however wtro able to satisfy the meeting that neither Mr Ewing or any other shareholding supplier had anything to fear in the way it was proposed to give effect to the anial gamation scheme. Everything would be carried out fair and above board. The reason for urgency in taking the vote was to enable the business of the coming season to be carried out by the combined interest ai.d the ►aving of from £35000 fo £70,000 thereby ensured to th« suppliers < n the season's business.

The very lucid manner in which Messrs Kirknnn, Fulton and Motion explained the whole business and their evident sincerity did much to convince many who were opposed or indifferent to the amalgamation scheme of its advantages, and quite a shea! of proxies were filled in after the meeting. The meeting concluded near midnight with the usual votes of thanks to the Chairman and visitors. BOMBAY. A further meeting in support of air algamation of dairy companies operating in South Auckland was held last Tuesday afternoon at Bombay, when the proposition was outlined to a representative meeting of shareholder supplieis of both companies. Messrs Fulton, McKenzie, and Kirkman explained the scheme. Many questions were asked, and satisfactorily answered. At the close of the meeting a motion was proposed by Mr French approving of the amalgamation proposals, and, on being put to the meeting, was carried unanimously. PAPAKURA. A similar meeting was held at Papakura on Tuesday evening, a large number of suppliers being present. A similar resolution was proposed by Mr E D. McLennan, and unanimously approved of by the meeting. FUBTIIER AFIELD. On Wedneiday nv rtings were held atMaungatawhiri Val!ey and Pokeno, the latter meeting t specially being well attended. A motion approving of the amalgamation scheme, and recommending all suppliers to sup port and assist to make effective th» amalgamation proposals was pro posed by Mr E. 11.
