MAUKU CHURCH.
"• Times" Special Article.
WIDESPREAD INTEREST.
Widespred interest is being evinced by the special article which appeared in the " Times " of April 29th, giving a fine historical description of the Mauku church. Among the appredatory communicasions is one from Archdeacon Cowie (Hamilton), who, incidentally, points out two typographical errors—namely Colonel " Balmaires " instead of Balnevis, and the Rev. A. G. " Purchase " instead of Purchas." In the course of his letter, Archdeacon Cowie makes the following interesting comment: Colonel Balnevis was at one time sheriff, and I can well remember his funeral—a military one—in the early seventies. The Rev. A G. (Dr.) Purchas lived to perform the rather unique feat of solemnising a marriage on his 80th birthday, between two persons with regard to one of whom (the bride), he had also married the mother and grandmother."
