REPLY TO MR SIM.

(to the Editor.) Sir,—As a result of perusing Mr Sim's unwarranted attack upon Mr Oldfield (as appeared in your columns} and Mr Oldfield's reply, it seems a !>ity Mr Sim had not indulged in a ittle quiet reflection before, in such a state of wrath, rushing into print as & means of retaliation at not being able to have his own way at the Buckland Farmers' Union meeting. Surely Mr Sim must have been a very lukewarm member, to resign on Buch trivial grounds. Unfortunately we do find a few high-explosive gentlemen, who so resemble a German floating mine that (if not handled with the utmost tenderness, and allowed to pursue their course uninterruptedly) explode, with the idea of having the most devastating results, and ultimately sinking into oblivion.

Now, some of us farmers need educating on very much broader principles, and require the infusion of a little more British pluck and dogged perseverance; then we would be better fitted to fight for the common good, and to take our little defeats more gracefully, instead of attempting to show our superior (?) knowledge by severing our connexion with any good movement. Had Mr Sim resigned and retired as gracefully as did Mr Wily evidently, or else clapped his hands and said nothing on bis fortunate escape from such "company." No one could very well take exception. Taking the saying that " anger is the thief of common-sense," it seems as though Mr Sim was robbed for the time being, which is to be regretted, because he evidently has not endeavoured to benefit himself, Mr Oldfield, or the Farmers' Union. Really, what was his object ? Yours, etc., R. W. JOHNB.
