The annual meeting of parishioners of St. Andrew's Church, Pukekohe, will be held in the Masonic hall on Monday evening next at 7.45. Full particulars of the Dandies' visit to Pukekohe, fixed for Wednesday, May Mth, will appear in our next issue. A good deal of interest is being displayed by local enthusiasts over the football match to be played on the Domain to-morrow between the Pukekohe and Bombay clubs. The names of several new players have been mentioned, and the outlook for the coming season is exceedingly hopeful. A total of Gl!) voters used their privilege at the Pukekohe municipal elections, on Wednesday, out of 983 emidad to vote. The average of the voting returns showed that in nearly every case six or seven members were voted for, so that it may be taken for granted there wag no plumping for anv two or candidates
In the voting for tho Pukekohe war memorial, on Wednesday, the figures were—Hospital, 2.19; swim ming baths, 190; monument, ''3 When voting for the hospital, persons did not record a second preference, but there were 121 second preferences for the baths, and 38 for the monument, so that in the event of the hospital being disallowed by the Hospital Board, then the baths proposal would be carried. Hockey enthusiasts are requested. by advertisement in this issue, to hand in their names to the secretary of the Pukekohe Hockey Club, at Mr W. T. Jones' shop, on or before Wednesday, May Ttb, in order that a general meeting can be called. Up to the present, teams from Mauku, Glenbrook, and Waiau Pa intend competing for the Quest shield. Tho " Times " opines that the man who originated the expression " the animosity of inanimate objects," must have been employed operating an oil engine. The particular specimen of internal combustion fiend we have in our mechanical department at present joined the " I-won't-work" crowd all of a sudden last Tuesday afternoon. The piston rod spiralled around the crank shaft, or something of that sort, and it took a perspiring motor mechanic three hours to make some new internal organs for the pesky thing, delaying publication to that extent. Theso are all well-known local soldiers, and the public should roll up in largo numbers, and show their appreciation of the efforts of the boys who went forward in the ( auso of justice, right, and humanity. The various committees for the ensuing term will be set up. So far, the date for the inquest concerning the death of the three Maoris who, it is believed, wore killed by a Hun mine on the Woodleigh beach, has not yet been determined, but it is expected it will be held very shortly. The police have a certificate from the Naval Adviser, and this will be submitted as evidence.
