TRAVELLING SCHOLARSHIP
Dr. Ivan McDonald Allen PUKEKOHE PARENTAGE The latest winner of the Travelling Scholarship is Dr Ivan McDonald Allen, son of Mr and Mrs William J. Allen, who, prior to their marriage, spent the whole of their lives in Pukekohe, but are now living at Hamilton. It may be of interest to old residents to be reminded that the wedding was celebrated in the Pukekohe Presbyterian Church, on September 26th, 1894, and the son here referred to was born in the following year. The grandparents of the latter are Mr and Mrs J»hn Allen, of Paerata, and Mr and Mrs Thomas Pollock, of Pukekohe Hill, four of the oldest residents in the Franklin County, their term of residence being about half a century Briefly, the conditions of the Travelling Scholarship are that it is awarded to a Batchelor of Mediciue in the University of New Zealand, at the end of his course, on the recommendation of the Faculty of Medicine and this recommendation is based on a consideration of the merit shown in all courses taken during the student's whole period of study. It is the highest award obtainable in New Zealand, and -jjrries a bursary of £l5O for one year. The holder is required to study in Europe or America, within fifteen months of semiing the- scholarship, and to writ- a full report of the woik lone j ' \- l.iiii while holding the -"'ir -< I'r Alien pas>efl the highest standard at the Pukekohe primary school in r.'
