When metalling new roads itUs absolutely necessary that a road

roller sh uld bo used otherwise a smooth surface cannot be obtained It thoroughly rolled a compact solid road will be the result, which is more desirable than the method as carried out at present. In my opinion another portable stone crusher is required to cope with the large quantity of stone to be crushed during the summer months. If arrangements were made immediately for these articles no doubt they would be available for work during next summer.

• Drury Biding.—During the month an inspection was made of roads in the Drury Riding when the different matters left to Or Thomas and myself were attended to. Arrangements were made to open Ballard's road by forming where required at d putting in the necessary culverts. The work is now proceeding. Works on the Maketu road and McDowell's road were also airanged for It was decided to form and metal a portion of Appleby's road, Drury, this summer provided the stone now out can be orushed in time. Au inspection was made of the alteiation in fence lines at Drury, Great t-outh Road, which Mr Cossey has asked the Council to agree to. We would recommend that the Otiuncil's consent be given on the form received Stone Crushing and Hauling Plants—The stone procured from Orimmer's quarry has been crushed during a the month and is now being hauled by the No- 2 engine and waggons to positions in Waipipi Hiding as required. The stone crushing plant is now operating on die Hunuato Panarimn road, 1200 cubic yards of stone being available for crushiug there. Teams' Plant.—The Teams Plant is workiug at Mangatangi forming now porionsof road and aUi> i■.'! ji nrug th« old road. It has beeij i: i impossible up t > the pie*ent to [in.cure the services of sufficient mei> lo keep the plant going up to full .strength. Wuiks Generally.—Works generally throughout the County are jiri grfssmg in a fairly satisfactory m l l nn«r. Formation metaling and repairs are being carried out as speedily us possible. Tbe shortage of Lb' ur however is hampering all classes of w>rk.

!.u k «u Town Board were met on the Mill and Ueraghty's road and Miti-factory arrangements were made it'g/irding formation of same Metal by Rail---Considerable ineot.vt'ni.'iice is being caused through the nondelivery of metal to the l\i|takiwa station, the shortage of laiiw trucks being the chief 11 "U 1)1" Proposed Now Works - Engineering surveys have been completed .iiid in progress fo' a number of ma'is. The preparation of the ne.:«sH iry plans for the same are also in progress. Tne report was adopted.
