PATUMAHOE.
FARMERS' UNION CONCERT The concert arranged by the Mauku branch of the Farmers' Union took place in the Patumahoe H-.1l on Friday, March 21st. Although the weather was unfavourable, there was a fair attendance and those present had the pleasure of listening to one of the best concerts ever held in Patumahoe, all the items being so much appreciated th it encores were numerous. Miss V. Bailey opened with a piunoforte solo " The Waikato March '' played iu her usual efficient manner. Mrs Sweetapple, a lady from Auckland, rendered several so-igs in a style that is very seldom heard in a country district, the best probably being " When the Golden Duwn is Breaking " and " Bird of Love Divine." Mrs Sweetapple had a great reception, and hope was expressed that an opportunity would be giveu of listening to her again in the near future. Miss Elvy eiynis, another Auckland lady, sang " Destiny " and the " Pipes of Pan " in a very pljasing manner. Mis 9 Joy Roto was in good voire, especially in " Dou't Hurry." Messrs Lionel Stone and Martin Brooks were heard to I'lvntagu in several items and Mr S. OldfitU s.iv.l tecitalions that wore v»»tj well received. Mi " I'om " Watson supplied the comic element with s m« very amusing items, especially " P.O 4!i " and " I'd Rather Have a Hard Boiled F.(?g " iii-s V i'.ail'V and Mr Jack Fernandez acted as itrcomp mi^N A word ill praise, is iluo to Mrs Oioudeu I'oi the veiy pretty effects ill stago di rotations.
