STOCK SALE REPORT
Messrs Alfred Buckland and Sons Ltd report: On Wednesday at our weekly West field fat stock market, we penned fat cattle to the number of 323 head, comprising 244 steers, 75 cows and heifers, and 4 bulls. There was improved demand, with a further advance in values, prime ox beef being very firm. Choice ox sold to £2 12s per 1001b ; prime ox, £2 9s to £2 11s per 1001b ; rough and plain beef, £1 15s to £2 5s per 1001b ; cow and heifer beef, £2 to £2 7s per 1001b. Steers ranged in price from £lO 10s to £22 ; cows and heifers, £7 10a to £l6 ; bulls, £8 to £l6 15s. The highest averages for steers included 7 from Mr W. W. McLaughlan, Papatoetoe, £l9 13s 2d ; 8 from Mr W. Wright, Otaua, Waiuku, £l9 12s fid ; 35 from Mr A. Muir, senr, Mangere, £lB 7s lOd ; There was only a moderate yarding of sheep, and a big 1 proportion were of inferior quality. Prices for these remained unchanged, but all prime mutton was considerably firmer. Heavy prime wethers, £1 17s to £2; no extra heavy prime wethers penned ; medium to heavy prime wethers, £1 13s to £1 16s 6d ; light fat wethers, £1 8s fid to £1 12a; unfinished wether.", £1 3s to £1 9s; extra heavy prime ewes, £1 10s to £1 149 6d ; lighter fat ewes, £l Is to £1 4r ; other ewes, 10s fid to 19a. (1102 sheep sold). The 299 lambs that came forward were required and met with a keen sale. Best heavy prime lambs, 28s to 31s. A pen of seven extra good shorn blackfaced lambs from Mr W. Duder, M iraetai, made the record of 43s 3d ; lighter fat lambs, 24s to 27s 6d; light fat lambs, 2ls to 23s ; unfinished, 15s to ISs; stores, 8s to 12a 6d. The fil fat and young calves fully maintained last week's improved rates. Runners made from £5 15s to £7 2s fid for an 18-month steer; vealers, heavy, £4 to £5 5a ; medium, £3 to £3 183; ligh f , £2 to £2 18s; small and fresh dropped, fis Ito 35There was again a full market of pigs, including a large number of s'ips and weaners. Competition was keen fur all fat pigs; strong weaners were also wanted, but the weaker onos were neglected.
