Bi-Monthly Meeting The bi-monthly meeting of the Baglan County Council was held at Ngaruawahia on Wednesday last, when the following were present— Cra C Johnstone (Chairman), Sea▼ill, Crawford, Cochrane, Morrifcra, Ocway, Swann, Hawlinson, Lowry, Broughton, and Cobourne. The Chairman, in accordance with notice, moved that the sahry of the Clerk be raised from £350 to £425 per annum.—Cr Cobourne seconded. —After some discussion, in which the Councillors generally favoured a small rise, but not to the extent of £75, Cr Swann moved an amendment that the salary be increased by £25. —Cr Lowery seconded—Upon being put, the amendment was carried.—A further amendment in favour of £4O was defeated, only the Chairman and Cra Crawford and Cobourne voting in favour of it The amounts available for expenditure in the several riding* at date included—Unewbero, £609 14s lid; Pukekawa, £42 13s lOd; Port Waikato, £393 19s 4d. The engineer reported a scarcity of suitable labour, it being impossible to get men at 11a 4d per day, the minimum under the award.—lt was decided, on the motion of Cr Otway, to raise the rate to 12s per day Cr Crawford (Onewhero), with the engineer, was given authority to deal with Al'en's road, for which tenders had been invited with no response. Cr Mftrrison (Pukekawa) suggested that steps should be taken for acquiring Underwood's quarry, in which there was an unlimited quan tity of metal.—The matter of securing an option over the quarry was left in the hands of Cra Crawford, Morrison, and the engineer. It wan decided on Cr Morrison's initiative, to take steps to raise a loan of £21,000 over the Pukekawa and portions of the Whangape, Waingaro. Te Akau, and Port Waikato ridir gs for road metalling, and also for the acquisition of land in the erection of a surfaceman's cottage, the latter work to be a charge on the Pukekawa riding only. Accounts amounting to £1950 10s lld f»r the month of February and £3695 12a Ud for the month of March were passed for payment, the Onewhero riding's proportion b»ing £7l Is 3d and £147 6s 2d respectively, while the Pukokawa riding's share amounts to £47 18s 5d and £ll3 2s respectively.
