THE PUKEKOHE SHOW.

PEOPLES' DAY.

The 34th annual Show under the auspices of the Franklin A. and R Society was continued at the Showgrounds, Pukekohe, on Saturday, in ideal weather. The attendance was ■exceptionally large. Special trains, both from Auckland and Mercer, and stations en route, arrived with full loads of passengers, all forms of vehicles, as well as motor cars, tolled up from far and near with family parties, whilst the local public visibly helped to swell the to:al. The pic turwque ground presented a most brilliant scene, the sloping nature of ■he ground on the eastern side forming a natural grandstand, and therejo, far the first time, motor-cars took up their positions, the occupants thus being afforded a full view of | all the proceedings. The chief attraction throughout [ the day was the various competitions i in the ring. The jumping events j drew large entries, and the quality j of horse flesh competing exceeded I that of previous years. In fact, at j least one capable judge was of the j opinion that a better lot of cquines j would be hard to find at any A. and ! P. Show in the Dominion. Although ! there were a couple of spills, the ! day's outing was notmatked by any \ seti jUs mishap. A field if 11 faced the judges for j the distinction of gaining the chain- i pion hunter award, which cairied j with it a first prize of not less than j £3O. The jumping was exceedingly ! dean, and, ufter a close contest, the 1 vtidict went to Mr Geo Casey's j Glenora, Miss P. G. Grant's Kia Ora j being placed second, and Mr B H. ' Bishop's Viking third. The winner j also secured the prize for the bestmannered mare or gelding, and for j hack up to lost., but was curiously j enough unplaced for lady's hunter I and heavy-weight huuter. Amongst j an exceptionally fine lot of hacks, ' Miss Kelso's Laddie won as cham- j pion, and the same owner's Field | Maisbal was selected as champion j harness hor e. Mr Ben Myers' old j vbteran, Bowler, although in the j seventeenth year of his age, was | ouce more prominent, and he carried j off three firsts and one second prizes i in the hack and hunter classes. The building bousing the indus- I trial sections was thronged through- | out the day, and the exhibits were | greatly admired The grand parade was an eye- : opener to any Show enthusiast, and the maunet in which it was handled i leflected great credit on the parade j marshal, Mr James Wylie The Pukekohe Town Band, which j has just been reorganised, discoursed a capital programme of music, under i the onductorship of Mr J. EL. j Hindmau. > Trade Displays ■I In addition to the trade displays ! mentioned in our last issue, Messrs j Cooper and Curd showed some ! stylish gigs, manufactured at their ! premises, in Pukekohe, and also a , Trelour milking machine, for which j they are the local agents.
