SHOW SMOKE CONCERT.
As in former y o.irs the Executive of the Franklin A. find P. -Society entertained j udg«p, exhibitors, stewards and visitors at a cemplimentary smoke co .cert in the Masonic Hall, Pukokohe, last Friday evening, the building being filled to overflowing. The President of the Society (Mr Dynes Fulton) was in tho chair After the toasts of the King and His Excellency the Governor General had been honoured, Mr 0. K. Lawrie propored the toast of the Navy and Amy and Private Brown, a returned soldier, responded. Tho health of tho judges was jreposed bv Mr L L Ailor., of Onewhoro. In reply thereto, Mr E Saunders of Mangonui, Judge of tho light horses said the quality of tho exhibits iu his section was excellent and a credit not only to tho Show but to the splendid district of Pukokohe. They were, he added, as good a class of horses as had ever corno before hioi and the best he bad seen in a show ring for quito a long time. Mr T. Henton, of Eureka, Judge of the light harness horses, endorsed tho previous speaker's remarks and stated that he was very much impressed with tho Pukekoho district. He wished the Society every success and urged tho need for every member to get a new member every year in order to keep the Show in existence. Mr A. Buchanan of Palmerston Noith, judge of the Jersey cattle, spoke in a similar strain. He was, he said, very pleaded indeed with the quality of the stock submitted before him. It was very hard to discriminate which was the best as they were all good, lie was pleased with tho excellent district and the vast imimprovements made in the town sinco he was'last in Pukekohe and he considered the township a credit to the Dominion. Mr A. C. Johnston, of Taranaki, judge in the Ayrshire class, remarked that the Show had been an eyeopener to him, as he had never dreamt that the Pukekoho district had t.O many ttock enthusiasts. What, however, gave him the greatest pleasure of all was the fact that young farmers canto forward in his class. They had tho right class of stock, and the type was good. He added that the aged cow was a credit to the Dominion, and was sure to win even at Palmerston North if exhibited there. Mr W. Gadsby, judge of the sheep section, paid test'mony to the assistance rendered him by Mr L Allen, as class steward. The sheep exhibited, lt» consinued, were distinctly creditable to the district, and the yien who bml animals of such type wire an acquisition io tin? communitf. Ho regarded Pukekohe as one of the iine-t di.>tric:s in New Zealand for raising show sheep. He urged every member to work assiduously, and ev.ry year to secure a new n: ember.
