PAPATOETOE.
The ceremony of opening the new chapel at the Fapatoetoe Orphans' Home is to be performed to-morrow (Saturday) by the Bishop of Auckland (Dr A. W. Averill). Mrs Montgomery has disposed of her property of 12 acres on Tamaki road, Fapatoetoe, and she will be leaving early in March to take up residence in Auckland. There is at present a great demand for residential sections at Papatoetoe, and land is changing hands rapidly. Within the last week no fewer than five properties have been sold ranging from £IBOO to £3600. The membership of the Fapatoetoe Orchestral Society has been increased of late several new members having joined. Matters pertaining to the welfare of this musical organisation are progressing apace and everything points to the Society's initial concert and dance to be held on Wednesday, March 19th being an unqualified success. A number of Auckland's leading instrumentalists and vocalists have signified their willingness to assist with the pro gramme. Members of the Papatoetoe Tennis Club journeyed to Ardmore on Saturday of last week to try conclusions with the Ardmore Club. Some very exciting and close contests eveatua ted, and Fapatoetoe emerged triumphant by seven games to five. It took the winners all their time to gain the upper hand and it was evident that the Ardmore Club possesses some excellent players who would acquit themselves in a most credit able manner in more select com pany. Oreat interest is being taken in the Papatoetoe Tennis Club's championship events. Trophies presented by Messrs A. B. Larson and W J. Dilworth as well as the Da Pas Cup are being competed for. Building, at the present time at Papatoetoe is very brisk indeed, no less than seven up-to date structure of the bungalow type being in the course of erection. Mr Mulcocks is erecting a brick bungalow on Station Road, whilst Mr C. (iillard and Mr James Buchanan are building on Wallace Road.
Mr W. Delahunty has purchased a three acre section from Mr Bennett on Station Road and intends going in for a carrying business. He is erecting a fine residence on the property.
