Present: the Mayor (Mr A. Me Donald), Crs. J. Brady, T. Clenents, A. J. Wildman, H. J. Hall and fi. Todi and the Town Clerk (Mr W. J. Dinnison). Apologies for absence wet) received from Crs Field and EL Y. Stringer. MISCELLANEOUS The Tauranga Hospital and Charitable Aid Board wrote soliciting the support of the Council in impressing upon the Government the necessity of Maori pas being kept in a sanitary condition.—Received. An application by the Otahuhu Library Committee for a donation of £lO was acceeded to. A request by the Town Clerk's assistant for an increase in salary was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee.

In reply to question*), as to repurs to the septic tank the Town Clerk reported that the Health Inspe :tor had expressed satisfaction with the work done.

The Salvation Army wrote asking for assistance in th« charge made by the Council in extending drainage to the barracks —The relief asked for was granted in view of the extra work involved through the main sewer being on opposite side of the road whereas the plan sbotred that it existed on the barracks side in accordance with which a cont - >ct price was accepted. It was resolve 1, on the motion of Cr Clements, to serve notices on owners who hid not compliel with the by-laws in respect of sinitary closets

A QUESTION OF DIGNITY. In regard to the proposed Peace celebrations, the Auckland City Conn* cil wrote stating that some local bodies had made objections as to walkiog in procession to the Domain on the second day of the Peice celebrations.—A motion to fill in with whatever steps were decided on was adopted.

A NOVEL APPLICATION. An application was submitted by the Council's sanitary men for ten days' leave of absence.

It was generally agreed tnat the men in question were well treated, and were also paid for holidays, such as was not done by other local bodies. It was resolved to decline the request, and to communicate with the men, poiritii.g out the conditions under which they worked in comparison with those in vogue in other places. NOXIOUS WEEDS. Or Brady brought under the Council's notice the bad state of some roads, through the prevalence of noxious weeds- and over-grown hedges. He urged the Council to enforce its bylaws, and, if necessary, to prosecute owners who refused to comply with the law. The Mayor stated that the usual notices were sent out annually. Cr Brady moved, and Or Clements seconded, that the Foreman should furnish a report giving a list of owners upon whom notices should be served. Carried. CLEANING-UP CAMPAIGN. The question of falling in line with the Auckland City Council re a ''cleaning-op week" was discussed and it was resolved to ask the co-, Operation of the citizens in the project. STREET MEETINGS. The N Z. Alliance applied for permission to hold a gathering iu tie street on the prohibition movement. It was decided not to consent to the same, the Mayor explaining th.it it was not desired to establish a pn - cedent, and, further, to obviate the danger of blocking the thoroughfare. During the course of the Otahuhu Borough Council meeting last night, Or. J.
