PATUMAHOE.

BED CROSS CONCERT. The Red Cross concert, held under the auspices of the Women's Patriotic League, in the Patumahoe halJ, on Friday evening, proved a most successful function. The audience was probably the largest ever seen in the hall, the building boing filled to overflowing, many persons having to be content with a seat on the window sills or on the fence outside the hall. Items were given by Misses Rowe, Bailey, Cowan, and Doreen Bi ady ; Messrs Pom Watso., Brooks and Crispe ; together with action by the children of the Mauku school, under the direction of Miss J. Rowe. Mr "Pom" Walsin's songs met with marked applause, and repeated encores failed to satisfy demands for his re-appearance. His lightning changes showed great ability, and his rendering of "PC. 49" was a veritable masterpiece. " Pom " certainly made himself good at Patumahoe, and his name will act as a certain draw for the future. The Mauku school-children gave two interesting selections, and their work reflects great credit on their tutor, Miss Rowe, who had spared no pains to have everything perfect. The Chairman (Mr M. Crispe) moved a special vote of thanks to all those who had assisted to make all the local patriotic functions a success, and he expressed keen appreciation of the splendid spirit of harmony that had been shown by all hands. Mr Crispe also paid tribute to Mrs Gutry, President of the Women's Patriotic League, for the sterling work she had done during her short term as President Luring the evening Mr J. Henry, in response to a request by the Chairman, gave a short address in connection with local arrangements for Peace celebrations to be held at Patumahoe in due course. A competition for a teapot and a cup and saucer presented by Mrs H. Perry resulted in Miss Stevenson winning tin former mid Miss Keddy the latter. The programme was concluded libuut 11.30 p.m. with the singing of the National Anthem, after which hj" hull was cleared for dancing, which was gnily entered into. I lie proceeds trom the concert and art union will result in about £3O b' iug added to the tunds. 1 his will bn divided between the hed I'r sand the Women's Patriot o League.
