DISTRICT NEWS.
WHANGARATA. THE BABBIT NUISANCE The formation of a Rabbit Board was decided upon at a representative meeting of farmers at Whanga rata last Friday. Mr J. Fulton was appointed chairman and Mr E. B KWster escretary and treasurer. It was resolved to comtnencea vigorous poisoning campaign early in March. The opinion was expressed that nothing should be left undone to eradicate the rabbit pest from the district, which at the present time was overrun. One farmer said that it was either a case of getting the rabbits out or going out themselves. The action of the Railway Department in allowing the old railway track from Buckland to Pokeno to be overgrown with noxious weedsf thereby assisting the breeding of rabbits, was the subject ot strong criticism. It is a regrettable fact that wherever there is vacant Government land especially railway sections, the same constitutes a menace to the surrounding community, whereas it should be an object lesson and example for farmers to work on. The following boundaries were fixed for the Whangarata Kabbit Board area and it is hoped that, with the assistance of the Fields Inspector all within the area will co-operate in the poisoning campaign, viz starting at the Waikato River following along Mr Ramanices eastern boundary, Mrs Coad's eastern boundary, Mr Rideouts eastern boundary, Mr Faber's eastern boundaiy to the Pokeno road, thence along the Pokeno road to Brewster's corner, by Mr Donnell's northern boundary, from Brewster's corner along the Razorback road, to the western boundary of Mr Williams' farm, and from there down Dominion road to the Tuakau railway crossing and right down the main road to the the river.
