ARARIMU
The weather in the Ararimu district has of late been more or less broken and harvesting operations are being carried on with great difficulty. Hay and oat crops are very heavy. A good deil has been en' for some time, and is srill in the fields, the probabilities therefore be ing that a lot will be considerably damaged before being finally secured in stack. Potato crops aie also exceptionally good here this year : and as they are so far free from blight, a plentiful supply of tubers seems assured. Some large heaps of spawls on the roadside near the quarry, with teams busy delivering more a little further on, may be token as evidence of contemplated improvement to the main road by the County Council. If the crusher is now only sent along in time to have the broken metal put on the road during the fine weather it will leave a cause the less for the criticism sometimes heard levelled against the Council. Another indication of progress in the district and of the old order changing and giving place to the new was the arrival last week, with a full load, of a fine new 4-ton motor lorry, which it is understood will soon be plying regularly for traffic between here and Diury. This will supply a pressing want, and the progressive owner is to be commended for his enterprise in thus catering for the district's needs.
