TOWN BOARD DISCORD (To the Editor) Si k, -In reference to the report which appeared in your last issue under the above healing it is no secret that I* am the so-called " obstructive'' member, to whom objection is being taken by the members of the Board who have resigned. I accordingly desire to make my position perfectly clear. I was elec ted at the recent by-election at the top of the poll for the express purpose of safeguarding the interests of the electors and T maintain that my actions have all been to that end. I deny that I have hindered the work of the Board. 1 simply desire to see it carried on under proper business lines For instance, let me say that after last Monday's meeting had conclu led and subsequent to Messrs Deeble (chairman) and Mr Oubb resigning membership of the Hoard the Clerk remembered that accounts, which totalled over £2OO, had been overlooked for sanction for payment. Thereupon, Mr Deeble, although he had handed in his resignation as a member and the same had accepted, resumed the chair and proposed that the accounts he passed for payment. This was seconded by Mr Gubb, who was also no longer a member of the Board, and the resolution was declared carried by the Chairman although the only three legally remaining members of the Board, viz Messrs Lapwood, Geragli ty and myself, did not vote. The more I look at the way the business of the Board has been con ducted iu the paper the more I am convinced that it is my duty to hold my seat in order that matters may bt remedied.— Yours etc JAMES MUNGALL Tuakau 19th Dec. 1018 (Advt)
