TUAKAU TOWN BOARD. A special meeting of the Tuakau Town Board was held on Monday evening last, when there were present—Messrs W. J. Deeble (Chairman), J. M. Mungall, G. S. Lapwood, W. Gubb, and B. G. Geraghty, with the Clerk (Mr A H. Tapper.) MR. BARNABY RESIGNS. Mr W. Barnaby wrote tendering his resignation as a member of the Board —On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Mungall, the resignation was accepted with regret. BRIDGE AND KOAD WOBKB. With regard to the new bridge at Tuakau, the Board's Engineer (Mr J. Routly) forwarded his report and final certificate on the bridge contract.—Mr Mungall moved that no bonus be paid to the contractor for the bridge, but this lapsed for want of a seconder.—ln consideration of the difficulties met with in carrying out the contract, the Chairman then proposed that the contractor (Mr F. Denner) be paid a bonus of £33 10s over and above the amount of the Engineer's final certificate.—The resolution was seconded by Mr W. Gubb, and was carried, Mr Mungall voting against.—The Chairman next moved that the Engineer's clearance certificate of the bridge be accepted, and that a final payment of £45 12s be made to the contractor; Mr W. Gubb seconded, and the motion was carried, Mr Mungall again dissenting. In the matter of the removal of old metal in George street to Cole road, the action of the Chairman in making the arrangements was approved on the motion of Mr Gubb, seconded by Mr Geraghty. On the proposition of Mr Mungall, seconded by Mr Geraghty, the Engineer was instructed to build in 18in. weep-hotes in the wings of the new bridge in George street as stated in the specifications. A motion by Mr Mungall that the Board do not accept the broken wing of the new bridge lapsed for want of a seconder. board's engineer. Mr Mungall next proposed that the Board's Engineer (Mr J. Routly) be allowed to finish any works in hand, but that the Board call applications for a new Engineer, and that applications close on January 3rd, 1919.—N0 seconder was, however, forthcoming. On the motion of Mr Mungall, it was then decided to instruct the Engineer to prepare plans and specifications for the remainder of works under allocations A and B of the £12,000 loan; and also separate plans and specifications for Harrisville road. MISCELLANEOUS. In connection with the proposed overhead bridge over the railway line at the foot of George street, the Engineer was instructed to confer with the District Engineer of the New Zealand Railways with a view to having the work put in hand. The Engineer (on the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Mungall) was authorised to carry out the tarring and sanding of the footpaths. The Clerk was empowered to employ two men to do the Board's work. With a view to preventing any danger to the public, the Engineer was instructed (on the motion of Mr Mungall) to attend to kerbing and channelling in George and Liverpool streets. ITNANCE. Accounts totalling £252 9s were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated. SEQUEL TO MEETING. As mentioned in our last issue, the Chairman (Mr W. J. Deeble) and Mr W. Gubb at the close of the meeting handed in their resig nations as members of the Board, Mr Deeble complaining that business was being unduly obstructed by a certain Board member. The resignations on the motion of Mr Mungall, seconded by Mr Geraghty, wore accepted with rogret.
