OTAHUHU BOROUGH. COUNCIL The final meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council, prior to the holiday vacation, took place last (Thursday) evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr A. McDonald), Crs H. V. Sfiinsfer, A. J. Wildman, T. Clements, R. Todd, and J. Brady, with the Town Clerk (Mr W. J. Dinnison.) PEACE CELRBRATIONS. A circular letter was received from the Mintster Internal Affairs intimating that local bodies were empowered to make their own arrangements in commemoration of the victory ot the Allies, and that the Government's programme would be circulated in due course. Action was deferred in the meantime. THK MANURE MENACE. The Mayor reported that the deputation, as appointed at the previous meeting, had waited peon the Traffic Manager relative to the discharge of manure at the railway station, and were told that the matter could not be remedied at present, but that the Department had extensive alterations in view which would overcome the diihculty. The Mayor expressed the opinion that the Council should ndt lie content to leave things as they were. Councillors were in agreement as to the menace to health caused by the manure being left in trucks at the station, and it was suggestee that the unloading should take place near Portage road, where there were few houses. It was ultimately decided to wait upon fie Minister for Railways in regard to the matter, and to ask the Member for the district (Sir Fredrick Lang) ro give the Council his assistance thereon. WATER SUPPLY. A report was read from the Pumping Engineer explaining the cause of the recent shutting of! of the water supply to residents living in the higher levels of the borough, the same being due to a breakdown ot the pump. MISCELLANEOUS. In view of the long hours he was working, the Pumping Engineer applied for a bonus or an increase of salary, and the request i was referred to the Legal and Finance Committee, in conjunction with the Water and Drainage Committee. The appointment of a Dog Registrar was discussed, the position having been filled by the Turncock during the past year.— Cr Brady considered that better lesults would accrre if applications were called for the appoints ment. He thought some resideiM past regular work or a return|P soldier partly incapacitated wodld be suitable.—Councillors agrsjj£p that it was not a business proposition to have the Turncock dcfeg the work in addition to his tibial duties, and it was agreed to incite applications for the appointment. It was resolved that thtf fee for registering dogs should be the same as in the past year. It was resolved to close the Council Office during the Christmas holidays, and to grant the Town Clerk his usual term of holidays as from January 2nd. FINANCE. A statement of receipts and ftpenditure was submitted by the Legal and Finance Committee, as follows. The receipts from Oct. 9th to December 17th were shown as being—General account, £llsß 13s lOd ; cemetery account, £54 8s 6d ; park account, £7 10s ; domain account, £6 10s ; and the balances at date were —District fund account, (debit) £2853 8s lOd; cemetery account, (credit) £94 10s ; park account, (credit) .£694 2s ; domain account, (credit) £33 Is 9d. Accounts to the amount of ,£9OO 5s 2d were passed for payment.
