TUAKAU.
r lhe situation in Tuakau, as regards influenza, has appreciably improved since our last issue, although, in the meantime, two additional deaths have been recorded, making a total of eleven fatalities to date. Some 24 patients are still under treatment at the Public Hall and *7esleyan Church, but whilst four are in a critical state the others are reported to be making satisfactory progress towards recovery The new cases that are arising are apparently not of so severe a type as previously. The deaths referred to above were those of two members of a wellknown Tuakau family namely Messrs Alfred Henry and Edward Lapwood, who pastel away on Tuesday within a few hours of one another at the residence of the first named. They were the eldest and second sons respectively of Mr Alfred 0 Lapwood, the former being 48 years of age, and the latter 46. Both were engaged in the launch industry on the Waikato river. The temporary hospitals are now being administered under the Health Department, Dr. Frengley (the acting-Chief Medical Officer) having entrusted Messrs Dynes Fulton and W. Mr. Peacock with powers of local management. To Mr Dynes Fulton is to be ascribed the credit of having set in motion euch a complete local organisation towards combating the scourge, as it was practically solely due to his efforts that the temporary hospitals came into exis f ence. In this he was loyally backed up by Mr Mcßae Peacock, and in Mr Fulton's temporary absence early this week (through a fam'ly bereavement) Mr Peacock assumed ch-irjrn. With Mr Fulton now agiin back in Tuakau. both are associated in the control of the campaign that is successfully coping with th" disease A third volunteer nurse has, within the past few d'ys, been secured froru Auckland to help in tho hospitals.
