OTAHUHU.
The seriousness of the influenza epidemic at Otahuhu has caused the Borough Council and the Citizens' Committee to take even wider steps to cope with the spread of the malady. The Otahuhu Public Hall has been requisitioned, thoroughly fumigated, and transformed into a temporary hospital for the more severe cases. Yesterday (Thursday) afternoon six patients were being treated therein. The hospital is equipped with an excellent nursing staff, presided over by Mrs Gribble, a local resident and a certificated nurse, while the cooking arrangements are controlled by Mrs Mason, wife of Rev H. Mason. The whole organisation is complete and there is every reason to feel that the local authorities haye matters, pertaining to the welfare of the public and the combating of the scourge, well in hand. For fire prevention purposes two firemen are on duty at the Hospital every night and besides acting in their official capacity they render assistance to the night nurses if required. An appeal is still being made for assistance in nursing afflicted persons. A spraying apparatus has been installed at the rear of the hospital and anyone can be sprayed with disinfectant at any tune. Although a number of fresh cases have been reported since our last issue no further deaths from the malady had occurred up to yesterday.
